Dadon was born in a monastery in Lhasa, Tibet, in 1967. As a child in the early 1980s, she was trained in classical music in a music school in Beijing, China. Upon graduating in 1985, Dadon returned to Tibet and joined the Tibetan Singing and Dance Group, where she shared her many talents and began to sing professionally. In the late 1980s, Dadon was the first Tibetan to enter and win numerous singing competitions in China. She recorded and sold millions of albums in Tibet and China during the late 1980's and early 1990's. In 1992, Dadon fled Tibet to India, eventually coming to the U.S. and her present home of Connecticut. Since that time, she has performed at national and international venues and events, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and various Tibet benefit concerts. She has performed with such music luminaries as Philip Glass, Arlo Guthrie, Patti Smith, YoYo Ma, Natalie Merchant, Ritchie Havens, and Sheryl Crow. A highly regarded composer and song-writer, Dadon composed songs for and starred in the critically-acclaimed film Windhorse. PHUNTSOK DHUMKHANG |

Phuntsok Dhumkhang was born in 1935 in Lhasa, Tibet. In 1959 he fled Tibet and went to India, where he joined the Tibetan Cultural Association, later known as the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA), as a musician and artist. He eventually became TIPA Director from 1965-1970. A singer, a songwriter, and an expert player of dramnyen (Tibetan lute) among other instruments, Phuntsok Dhumkhang has shared his passion and talent for music with numerous students both in India and abroad. Phuntsok Dhumkhang gives special attention to the ancient folksongs of Tibet of different genres, period, and provenance. In the 1990s, he released an album entitled Songs of Tibet containing rare and ancient tunes of his land. He also served as Cultural Advisor for and appeared in the film "Seven Years in Tibet." A highly-regarded calligrapher as well, Phuntsok Dhumkhang was invited to be a key presenter at the Tibetan Calligraphy Workshop and Exhibition hosted by Latse Library in October 2005. He currently lives in Dharamsala, India. |

Jamyang Kyi was born in Jador Radza County in Amdo (eastern Tibet). She is an award-winning journalist, television reporter, and news editor. She has worked in the Tibetan language section of the Qinghai Provincial Television Station for over 20 years. Her true passion, however, is singing and song-writing. Since the early 1990s, she has released several recordings including the CD Prayer and two VCDs Distant Lover and Karma. Jamyang Kyi’s music is influenced by both modern pop and traditional folk music from all areas of Tibet. Jamyang Kyi is also a writer and researcher, focusing on the issues facing Tibetan women and girls. Her published articles include a piece on the trafficking of girls (Qinghai Daily, Tibetan language edition, 11/30/05) and the status of women in Tibetan society. She lives in Siling (Xining) in Amdo / Qinghai Province. |
